The mix of tall grass, low shrubs, and evergreen trees provides variety, and Long’s Peak in the background adds sweeping mountain views. It’s an easy spot to get warmed up in front of the camera while enjoying a relaxed, accessible location. From here, we can explore other areas in the park without feeling rushed.

Dream Lake is another favorite, especially if you’re up for a short hike. The roughly 2.2-mile out-and-back trail is manageable for most couples, and along the way, there are plenty of spots to stop for photos with different backdrops—from dense forest paths to open meadows with glimpses of the surrounding mountains. The payoff is Dream Lake itself, with its turquoise waters framed by jagged peaks. Sunset light here is especially beautiful, making the lake and mountains glow in warm tones. Even if you don’t consider yourself a hiker, this trail is accessible, and the views are absolutely worth it.

For jaw-dropping vistas, Trail Ridge Road can’t be beat. There are multiple pull-off points along the road that give incredible panoramic views, perfect for dramatic engagement shots. My favorite spots allow couples to walk along rocky outcroppings and take in sunsets with Long’s Peak in the distance. Depending on the day, I like to choose the exact location on site so we can adapt to the light and weather, which in the Rockies can change quickly. This flexibility ensures we capture the best possible images without feeling forced.

When planning a Rocky Mountain session, a few tips help make the day smooth and enjoyable. Timing matters—sunrise and golden hour provide soft, flattering light and fewer crowds. Dress in layers and wear appropriate footwear, especially if you’ll be hiking or on rocky terrain, while still incorporating outfits that feel like “you” for photos.
